Marian Anderson:

She was the first African American was the first African American to sing at the Metropolitan Opera.  She paved the price for other famous opera singers such as Leotyne Price.  Marian Anderson overcame hatred and bitterness during a time when blacks and whites could not entertain in the same venues.  She received instant fame in 1939 when an organization called DOR (Daughters of the American Revolution) refused to allow her to perform at Constitution Hall in Washington,DC because she was black.  But Eleaonor Roosevelt was outraged so she invited her to come sing at the Lincoln Memorial. Marian Anderson went ahead and perfomed at many other events.  Thank you Marion Anderson for paving the way for Leotyne Price and other famous singers and breaking down racial barrier.
